About
We are an all men's chorus singing mostly a capella in 4 part harmony. Our ages range from teens to seniors. We all have a passion for singing especially in a men's chorus. All men are welcome no need to be able to read music or audition. All that is needed is a love of singing and the ability to carry a tune.
History
The chorus began on February 22, 1976 as a "Barbershop Chorus. In 1977 the chorus presented its first formal show in the Kamloops Secondary Auditorium which later was rebuilt as the Sagebrush Theatre. Except for the first five months, the chorus has been under the leadership of Wilf Epp.The chorus operated as an official Barbershop Chorus, belonging to the worldwide organization SPEBSQSA. The chorus competed in many festivals and contests, organized numerous enjoyable campouts, interacted frequently with choruses from other cities, and eventually became official ambassadors for the City of Kamloops. After about twenty years, several of the members, including Wilf, decided to take a hiatus, and under new leadership the chorus gradually became a mixed chorus. However, the desire and inspiration to keep men singing in harmony carried on in various quartets and small groups. In 2009 Wilf started a new men's chorus. It was called, "Kamloops Men's Gospel Chorus". The repertoire was comprised largely of classic gospel songs, the singing style remained a-cappella, and the performance venues were churches and community events. After about three years the chorus repertoire gradually changed to include a variety of music from genres such as folk, pop classics, doo-wop, traditional spirituals inspirational favorites, and sacred classics. At the same time the chorus also assumed the performance name, "Mostly A-Cappella". Although the chorus continued to perform at a variety of venues in the city, the main focus shifted towards presenting an annual show. These shows focused on quality performances, varied musical selections, and entertainment value. The success of the shows enable the chorus to raise funds for community charities while enjoying the thrill of performance. The success of the chorus has grown continually, The chorus has become well known in Kamloops and looks forward to continued opportunities for learning , fun, and performance. And so, the joy of singing continues...Anonymous authorIn May of 2024 Wilf Epp retired. The chorus now has a new director, Peter Rennie. We are in a rebuilding phase so if you are at all interested in joining this fun group of guys please contact us.
